Friends

I wanted to write about something that wasn’t counselling related but more realistic to the world we live in at present and the importance of friendships
So friendship – what does that mean?
Friendship means to me someone who is there with you through thick and thin no matter what; people who are there to see you laugh and cry and to pick you up when needed.
Those people you can get drunk with and say no matter what as they understand and be totally relaxed with.
We all have that person or persons in our life don’t we?
I’ve got some really great friends or Best friends; some I have known for over 30 years and some less than that does that make the longer ones more special than the others. I say no as people come and go in and out of your life along the way; you loose touch this happens.
From experience you can lose touch through other means;
· They or you can’t be bothered
· Your bothered they aren’t and vice a versa
· You go away and have a falling out
· They ignore you so you ignore them
· Not enough time in the day
· Other commitments
The above are just a few things however could you find a solution to the above? Have you a friend that you haven’t spoken too for a long time and miss them? What’s stopping you being the bigger person and trying to reconnect the friendship I understand some friendships when they break cant be repaired but some can you won’t know unless you try?
If you take the dictionary meaning for friend – “A friend is someone who you know well and like, but who is not related to you”

Even TV shows try and do representation of Friendships take the below 2 examples
Neighbours a popular day time soap about people who live in a Suburb in Australia and the trials and tribulations of the cul de sac they live in but the lyrics from the theme tune are very apt.

Neighbours,
Everybody needs good neighbours
Just a friendly wave each morning
Helps to make a better day
Neighbours,
Need to get to know each other
Next door is only a footstep away
Neighbours,
Everybody needs good neighbours
With a little understanding
You can find the perfect blend
Neighbours,
Should be there for one another
That’s when good neighbours become good friends
Neighbours,
Need to get to know each other
Next door is only a footstep away
Neighbours,
Everybody needs good neighbours
With a little understanding
You can find the perfect blend
Neighbours,
Should be there for one another
That’s when good neighbours become good friends
That’s when good neighbours become good friends

An American sitcom about for elderly ladies that live together and only 2 are related and how their lives interactive with each other

“Thank you for being a friend Travelled down a road and back again Your heart is true, you’re a pal and a confidant
I’m not ashamed to say I hope it always will stay this way My hat is off, won’t you stand up and take a bow
And if you threw a party Invited everyone you knew Well, you would see the biggest gift would be from me And the card attached would say
Thank you for being a friend Thank you for being a friend Thank you for being a friend Thank you for being a friend
If it’s a car you lack I’d surely buy you a Cadillac Whatever you need any time of the day or night
I’m not ashamed to say I hope it always will stay this way My hat is off, won’t you stand up and take a bow
And when we both get older With walking canes and hair of grey Have no fear even though it’s hard to hear I will stand here close and say
Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you) Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you) Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you) Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you)
Let me tell you about a friend (I wanna thank you) Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you) Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you) Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you)
And when we die and float away Into the night the Milky Way You’ll hear me call as we ascend I’ll say your name then once again
Thank you for being a
Thank you for being a friend (I want to thank you) Thank you for being a friend (I want to thank you) Thank you for being a friend (I want to thank you) Thank you for being a friend People, let me tell you about a friend (I wanna thank you) Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you) Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you) Thank you for being a friend
Whoa, tell you about a friend (thank you right now, for being a friend) Thank you for being a friend (I wanna tell you right now, and tell you again) Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you, thank you, for being a friend) Thank you for being a friend

The lyrics for these two shows says it all really you should be thankful for the people you call friends in your life – where would you be without them?
